Kirsty Duncan is a Mezzo Soprano who lives in Whiteinch in Glasgow.

She loves singing a variety of styles and is involved in many different singing projects.

Kirsty has a real heart for the older generations and she performs regularly at Lunch Clubs, Sheltered Housing and Care Homes in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Fife, Ayrshire and Perthshire.

This work is really significant and has great meaning, its incredible to see residents respond to music. Music is powerful!

She sings at the eight ROAR (Reaching Older Adults in Renfrewshire) Lunch Clubs on a regular basis and she takes requests from members to form her next set! ROAR is an incredible organisation which combats loneliness in older adults - its important work.

Kirsty led a choir for the Renfrewshire Carers Centre, which started in April 2013 and is going strong under the leadership of Clair Macdonald after Kirsty handed over to her in February 2020 to pursue solo work only. It is an incredibly exciting project as it brings together management, staff and unpaid carers in the same choir. Lots of singing and lots of laughter!

For more information about the choir, please look at their Facebook page!

Remember the little things - Dixon Community Choir

Since it's St David's Day I thought I'd upload a wee performance of my choir singing "Remember the little things" which is based on the dying words of St David.

More about Kirsty...

Kirsty Duncan, daughter of John and Pat, grew up in Twynholm, Dumfries & Galloway. Her childhood memories include singing with her Mum and Dad during car journeys, attending her first Opera (Mozart's The Magic Flute!) age 6 and being introduced to the film musical 'Singin' in the Rain' by Granny.

She always had a great love of music and enjoyed singing solo, in choirs and performing in the School Pantomime. She was part of Scottish Youth Theatre's Summer Festival (a 5 week residential Acting Course) in 2003 just after completing her final year at school.

In September 2003, Kirsty moved to York to study a BA (Hons) Performance: Music degree at York St John University. During the next three years she learned a great deal about music. This degree helped her become the singer she is today.

Studying such a varied mix of music: The Beatles, Stravinsky, Bowie, Blur, John Adams and Steve Reich just to name a few has given her a wider musical knowledge and has meant she enjoys performing a variety of music.

Kirsty has now completed not only her Music degree but an HNC Acting and Performance (2007) and also a Postgraduate Diploma in Career Guidance and Development (2008), which means that she is a qualified Career Advisor too, which has been incredibly helpful in her work in a local Foodbank and other community projects. She was a Career Advisor for a while but became Self Employed in 2011 to pursue singing.

Kirsty is based in Whiteinch, Glasgow.
